Learning Support

Strengthening learning support across the school

We are investing heavily in our Learning Support Department so that every child receives the help they need at the right time. By aligning our classroom programs (InitiaLit) with targeted intervention programs (MiniLit Sage and MacqLit), we are creating a cohesive, school-wide approach to literacy support.

Early intervention that makes a difference

To ensure no student falls behind, we introduced MiniLit Sage, a small-group intervention program designed for students who need extra support in the early years.

MiniLit Sage is highly structured, engaging, and built on decades of research showing the importance of early, targeted support.

What parents can expect

  • Earlier identification of learning needs
  • Clear pathways for support
  • Research-based intervention programs
  • Consistent communication with families
  • Regular progress monitoring and adjustments
  • A team approach that involves classroom teachers, support staff, and leadership

What students experience

  • Intensive practice in phonemic awareness and phonics
  • Support with reading fluency and comprehension
  • A warm, small-group environment where they can practise new skills
  • Regular monitoring to track progress and adjust support

    How this helps

By identifying reading difficulties early, we can prevent long-term challenges and ensure children experience success as they move through primary school.

      Behaviour & Social Skill Support

Behaviour Support is offered to those students who require extra support and to learn appropriate behaviour. These students must be referred by mainstream teachers. Their level of support is dependent on the needs they present. This may include personalised behaviour charts, Individual Behaviour Management Plans, behaviour contracts, social skill programs, social stories, anger management programs and Restorative Behaviour Management (RBM)

Our goal is simple: every child should feel supported, capable, and confident in their learning journey.
